The legendary TV writer and producer has been outspoken in his opposition to President Donald Trump.
Norman Lear is set to snub the White House reception for the 2017 Kennedy Center Honors.
The New York Times reported that Lear planned to boycott the gala reception on Dec. 3. Lear, the man behind classic TV series like All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Good Times and The Jeffersons, has been an outspoken and unrelenting critic of President Donald Trump and recently attacked plans to slash federal arts and culture funding.
On Thursday, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced the recipients of this year’s Kennedy Center Honors. Along with Lear, rapper-actor LL Cool J, singers Gloria Estefan and Lionel Richie and dancer Carmen de Lavallade were the other names announced.
The honorees will be celebrated at a White House gala that will feature performances and tributes from a series top entertainers, with both President Trump and first lady Melania Trump set to attend. The show will be broadcast Dec. 26 on CBS.
